Welcome to Belzoni Animal Rescue Kennel (BARK)

BARK is  group of concerned citizens that came together in January, 2012, to assist the City of Belzoni and Humphreys County with the dog pound. Prior to BARK’s involvement, few citizens even knew there was a dog pound! Animals were picked up, housed in poor conditions (sometimes without food or water) and then in two weeks, if unclaimed, they were destroyed.

BARK has made physical improvements to the physical structure by repairing the roof, adding dog pens, adding sewage drainage system, and a large fenced area for dogs to run.

We still lack a lot of necessary items but we make do the best we can. Our money first goes to vet care, food, and then housing. We have formed the organization B.A.R.K. : Belzoni Animal Rescue Kennel, a 501c3 non-profit organization.

We operate strictly on donations and fundraisers. Since the inceptions of BARK, we have saved and re-homed over 700 dogs. Quite a feat with such a small group of volunteers. It takes dedication and hard work to accomplish animal rescue.

We ask that you help us by donating, volunteering, fostering, walking a dog or adopting a dog.

The adoption fee is $95.00. This is to offset the charges of spay/neuter, vet charges, shots, and heartworm preventative.

Some of the lucky dogs are placed in foster homes when available while others live at the pound.  Each dog is given basic medical care by a licensed veterinarian, spayed or neutered and put up for adoption. We have been able to adopt out some locally but most dogs are sent on transports to new homes in the northeastern U.S.

The pound is closed to the public. Since we do not have employees, you must make an appointment to view a dog. Please contact us if you wish to look at dog or even just play with a dog!

Our Facebook page, Belzoni Animal Rescue Kennel, has all of our available dogs and puppies and news about what is happening! Check us out! Contact us here.

Our Mission

It is our mission, as a group of volunteers, to make a difference in our community by rescuing homeless dogs, educate the community on animal care and welfare, and to open the eyes of those that have become blind to animal cruelty. It is our hope that we make a difference in the lives of the animals and the lives of their future forever families.
